As the next well trained group passed, I stood fatigued, taking in the enormity of the day that was coming to a close. Somehow, I managed to fall towards the back of my four person group again. But I did not mind, nor did they, for it gave my thoughts ample space to roam and to grow…
On the other side of this arête stands the well structured, metal enforced Schiestlhaus cabin, where we planned to lodge for the night. And although I lacked sleep and a bed was almost in my view, after eight and a half hours of a steep uphill hike, now standing in the cold wet snow, letting the sun still scorch my unprotected skin, I reached an unperturbed ease located below the mountain peak. Namely, the Hochschwab mountain. With an elevation of 2,277 meters above the Adriatic sea-level, this validates my first of many mountains treks.
Over a week and a half later, my sun-kissed skin reminds me of the numerous kilometers I have endured from this particular wandering.
